Biography of Yizhuang Ding

Yizhuang Ding, Female, Manchu ethnicity. She got her B.A. in history from Beijing Normal University, and M.A. and Ph.D in history from Central University for Nationalities. Her advisor was the renowned historian in the field of Qing Dynasty research, Prof. Zhonghan Wang. She was an instructor in the Department of History, Central University for Nationalities from 1985 to 1991. In 1993, she became a research fellow and doctoral tutor in the Institute of History,Chinese Academy of Social Sciences. She retired in 2012 from this institute.

She was the author of the following books:
A Research on the Garrison of the Eight Banners in Qing Dynasty, 1992;
A Research on Woman Life and Marriage Institution of Manchu, 1999;
The History of Educated Youth in China: At the Beginning, 1998.
She also wrote several books on oral history including:
1. Last Memory: the Oral History of Sixteen Manchurian Women,1999
2. The Oral History of Old Beijingers, 2009
3. The Oral History Reader, (co-author Run Wang) 2011

She led the oral history project of Beijing Publisher The Oral History of Beijingers. The first series include 5 volumes and was published in October 2014, among which she wrote The Oral History of Huang Zonghan: Before Xuanwu District Disappeared and The Personal Narrative on the History of Beijing TongRenTang.
