Donald Ritchie is the Historian of the United States Senate. He graduated from the City College of New York and earned a Ph.D. in history from the University of Maryland before joining the Senate Historical Office in 1976. His work for the Senate has involved research, writing, editing, exhibit planning, and oral history. He is a past president of the Oral History Association and a former council member and newsletter editor for the International Oral History Association. He has written a number of books on American politics and government, edited the Oxford Handbook of Oral History, and is the author of Doing Oral History: A Practical Guide.
