1. What is the mission of Evergreen Education Foundation and where is it located? What has it accomplished and where does it operate?

Ans. Evergreen Education Foundation was formed by overseas Chinese Americans and American friends in 2001 to help rural China modernize and improve its libraries, primarily school libraries. Its head office is located in the San Francisco Bay area and its China organization is called CERLS or China Evergreen (China Evergreen Rural Library Service Center). China Evergreen was a co winner with the Aarhus Library in Denmark of the “Access to Learning Award” in 2004, given annually by the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation. To date, Evergreen has helped over 45 rural libraries in Qinghai, Gansu, Shaanxi, Shanxi, Yunnan, Guizhou, Northern Jiangsu and migrant schools in Beijing.

2. Who came to the past Evergreen conferences?

Ans. Evergreen sponsored approximately 100 librarians and teachers to each of the past 4 conferences (2004, 2006, 2008, 2010 and 2012). This year, we will sponsor 120 libraries and teachers including those from private one room libraries. Delegates and invited speakers come from the US, Taiwan, Hong Kong, England, Southeast Asia, and China mainland. These are mainly professors, teachers, librarians and other public servants and NGOs. Each time we have between 200 to 300 participants.
